At the west end of the UCSC Campus, this diverse area features forested ravines, springs, riparian zones, and grassland. Nearby there are also Mima mounds, a diversity of spring wildflowers, and a mixture of oak, Pacific madrone, coast redwood, and Douglas fir.
Directions
We will gather at the west end of the UCSC West Remote Parking, lot 127. The lot is near Oakes College.
Drive to the college as if you were heading to the Arboretum off of Empire Grade (which is what High Street becomes close by), but continue a little farther north. Turn right on Heller Drive, then right into the parking lot.
